Physical Education
At Sandford Park, we view Sport and P.E. as vital foundations that help our students lead healthy active lives as they grow up. Physical Education provides students with the knowledge and understanding to enhance their own performance in a range of practical activities. Sandford Park has a strong tradition of sport, with expert coaching and impressive facilities. These facilities include the main playing field, which is maintained to a very high standard, a fully equipped Multi-Purpose Hall, tennis courts, and an all-weather hockey pitch.
We offer a P.E. syllabus to all students from Forms I – VI. In the Junior Cycle, sport accommodates all abilities and most interests. Classes consist of a double lesson per week, in which the students are expected to fully participate. The curriculum is modular, with the pupils involved in the following activities: soccer; badminton; basketball; gymnastics; volleyball; tennis; softball; orienteering; health-related fitness; and athletics.
The Senior Cycle consists of one lesson per week and further develops the curriculum and modules offered at Junior Cycle.
The department’s aim is to promote life-long participation in and enjoyment of Physical Education.
