Further Basketball Success

We are thrilled to let you know of further basketball success, this time the U19 Boys! The pressure was on after the U19 Girls returned home from their victorious East Leinster Final on Tuesday and the boys lived up to all expectations.

Taking on Colaiste Chraobh Abhann, who looked like a good outfit from the outset, the boys calmly went about their business, always staying in front by a comfortable but not huge margin. We thought we were cruising to another Sandford victory, Colaiste Chraobh Abhann had other ideas! A frantic final quarter saw them get within one score and it looked like the game was slipping away as they piled on more and more pressure. A clever timeout, some extra roaring from the Sandford crowd and some calm heads from the team saw them take back control of the game and win by the narrowest of margins, 35-31.

A fantastic win and a wonderful end to the regional final’s week. The boys will now go into the Leinster Cup and will be hoping to get to the final where they would play in the National Basketball Arena.

Congratulations to all those who have been involved in Basketball this term, and we look forward to following the teams in the Leinster Cup. Form 1 and 2 will start their leagues after Christmas and we will be hoping for continued success.
