BADMINTON

It has once again been a fabulous year for badminton. We have had numerous Dublin Finals, a Leinster Final and will take part in the All-Irelands next month.

U19 Boys

Both the U19 A and B boys badminton teams won their leagues and went on the play in the Dublin Finals.

The U19 A team took on De La Salle in their Dublin Final, comfortably beating them 5-1. This took them through to the Leinster Championships. The Leinster Championships are a gruelling round robin day of matches that take place in the impressive Baldoyle Badminton Centre. They were drawn against Newbridge College and Knockbeg College in the group stage, beating them both comfortably 6-0 in both games. This took them through to the final where they beat Scoil Aireagail, Ballyhale 4-2 to become Leinster Champions, retaining the trophy for the second year in a row. They will play in the All-Ireland Finals in March. Huge congratulations and best of luck to the team and coaches.

U19 A Team Leinster Champions

The B team played St Fintan’s in their Dublin Final and after completing their matches they were tied 3-3 in games but were crowned champions, winning on points. Six out of the eight team members on both the A and B teams will still be with us next year, which bodes well for the future. Well done to both teams on all their successes.

U16 Boys

Both the B and C U16 boys teams won their group stages and made it through to the Dublin Finals. As they were both in the same league division, this meant they played each other in the final! A guaranteed trophy for Sandford! The B team ended victorious, winning by 4 games to 2. Congratulations to both teams, and coaches.
