Hockey
Since the opening of the school hockey pitch in 2018, a strong tradition of hockey has developed for both boys and girls with teams performing at every age group throughout the Leinster hockey leagues and cups.
There are 8 girl’s teams with A and B teams at each level; Senior, Junior, Minor and First Year. Since the introduction of girls in Sandford, girls’ hockey has grown year on year with A teams progressing to higher divisions and B teams remaining at a developmental level. Boy’s hockey continues to grow with A and B teams at First Year and Minor level and A teams at Junior and Senior level bringing the total number of teams to 6. Matches take place on Wednesday afternoons, and where possible, on team training days during the week.
In addition to league and cup matches, friendlies, social blitzes and inter year matches are also played throughout the season. Training for all groups takes place twice a week after school. Our coaching staff are highly dedicated and skilled coaches who passionately drive the game forward with the Sandford pillars of sport at its core. We have strong connections with Railway Union Hockey Club, Pembroke Wanders Hockey Club and Hockey Ireland.
