Drama
Drama in Sandford Park is an integral part of our emphasis on the creative arts. We encourage students from all year groups to participate in our annual production, both on stage and back stage in a variety of roles.
Through Sandford Park Drama Society’s annual whole-school productions, and in conjunction with our Transition Year Creative Arts programme, students from all year groups have the opportunity to become involved in all aspects of the theatrical process, from set building, lighting and sound, props and makeup, choreography and direction, to back stage management, and of course, acting on the stage itself. The Drama department works alongside the Music and Art departments to produce plays and musicals that have a reputation for their extremely high theatrical and educational value. Plays are chosen before the year begins, so that it can be cast and rehearsed thoroughly, without impeding the normal timetable. The practical application of dramatic and theatrical skills will be a perfect complement to the formal introduction of the new Leaving Certificate Drama, Film and Theatre curriculum, a timetabled CAO course becoming available in September of 2025.
My Fair Lady
This year’s production of My Fair Lady once again demonstrated the school’s capacity for theatrical excellence. The extremely talented principle cast members delighted audiences over four nights with their professionally stunning performances, ably backed by an exuberant supporting cast. An enthusiastic and dedicated backstage crew including, stage, props and costume managers, also brilliantly contributed to what turned out to be four thoroughly enjoyable evenings. As a whole school endeavour we had an incredible amount of help and support from students, parents and staff alike.
Previous Productions
The Crucible
The 2024 production of The Crucible, while a very dramatic and challenging play, proved to be highly successful. Since it is also a text on the Leaving Certificate English course, it was of great educational benefit for students as well.
