Ethos & Values
Sandford Park’s ethos and values are determined by the founder Alfred Le Peton who believed that education had to embrace the whole person. In his writings, there is a recognition that the young will benefit only by a growing awareness that they must take responsibility for their own lives, and that the role of the educator was to provide the opportunities and the motivation to bring about this desired end.
Sandford Park School is a non-denominational school, which welcomes students of all religious backgrounds or none. Central to our ethos is a recognition of the individuality of all of our students and our staff, and of their right to the enjoyment of their roles within the school. Allied to this is a recognition of our responsibility to the community as well as to the individuals who comprise that community. We believe that all learning is based on a relationship which is humane and caring without being over-indulgent, casual or selective, and that we each bear a shared responsibility for the reputation of the school.
In our community, all staff recognise their participation in a total educational process, which is guided by a desire to maintain the highest possible standards. To this end, we are conscious of acting as role models of adult behaviour for the young people we deal with, who are at a formative stage of development.
We strive to create an atmosphere that is calm and reflective and to allow our students to acquire these traits.
