On Thursday, 23rd April, the members of our Green-Schools committee had an exciting tour of the newly refurbished Ringsend Wastewater Treatment Plant in Ringsend. The Ringsend Wastewater Treatment Plant is Ireland’s largest wastewater facility, recently upgraded to treat wastewater for 2.4 million people in the Greater Dublin Area. This tour was a particularly relevant one for the school’s recently acquired 8th Green Flag: Global Citizenship: Marine Environment. Our tour guide, Derek, gave us a presentation on the history and recent refurbishment of the Ringsend Wastewater Treatment Plant. We then had a very interesting and informative tour of the plant, which was made even more picturesque by the lovely weather we had on the day! We saw the process from start to finish, where the wastewater enters the facility, to where it is treated in several stages, to where the treated clean water is released back to the sea. A great day was had by all!
