Sport

In Sandford Park School sport and physical activity play a significant role in the life of the school. All students are encouraged to participate in school sport. The aim of extracurricular sport is to provide all students with a fun and enjoyable environment in order to help them achieve their sporting potential.

The Physical Education department in Sandford Park believe that students benefit considerably in many aspects of their overall development when they experience a wide range of extra-curricular activities. By providing them with these experiences we are encouraging our students to continue to pursue them into adult life. When taking part we want our students to have fun and enjoyment and the opportunity to build friendships and to work together cooperatively.

We use a combination of teaching staff and external qualified coaches as to deliver the sports programme in the school. All activities develop and re-enforce skills that the students have experienced through their Physical Education Programme.

Sandford Park Offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities to include:

  • Rugby
  • Hockey
  • Badminton
  • Basketball
  • Cricket
  • Tennis
  • Athletics/Cross Country

Sandford Park School puts great emphasis on the importance of its extra-curricular sports programme and for this reason it is compulsory for students in the junior School to represent the school in two of its major sports. In the winter term, boys in Forms 1-3 are obliged to participate in rugby and hockey. The girls in Forms 1-3 will participate in basketball and hockey.

In the senior school (Forms 5 and 6) it is compulsory for students to participate in at least one extra-curricular sport.

In the spring/summer term the school will offer tennis and cricket to all students.
