Film Club

Music, dance, painting, literature, architecture, sculpture. These are the classical Arts, with their own muses. But the most modern Art, our Art, is the Seventh Art, Film. It has its Muses too, the great stars of Hollywood’s Golden era, or the directors whose work inspires us. Sandford Park’s Film Club meets regularly on Fridays, to watch, discuss and enjoy the magic of cinema.

We often have seasons, exploring the work of a specific director, actor, or theme. In the recent past we have experienced Werner Herzog, appreciated Paul Newman and Humphrey Bogart, as well as going where no (hu)man has gone before, the outer reaches of science-fiction: Aguirre, the Wrath of God; Cool Hand Luke; The Maltese Falcon; Forbidden Planet.

We also visit the cinema, with trips to the Lighthouse in Smithfield, a wonderful Arthouse venue that shows the best in European and World film. Fridays are popcorn for the dedicated cinéastes of Sandford Park.
